NEW YORK — A University of Portland research challenges the perception that is popular there was a “new and pervasive hookup tradition” among modern students.

“Present research and popular news reports have actually described intimate relationships among modern university students since described as an innovative new and pervasive hookup culture for which pupils frequently have sexual intercourse without any strings connected,” said study co-author Martin Monto, a sociology teacher during the University of Portland. “This suggests that the school campus has grown to become a more sexualized environment and that undergraduates are having more intercourse than previously.
